Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
