From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
